Hopefully this will give you a better feel for who I am, and what silliness I get up to.
Almost nothing about asking for help is pleasant, or easy, when you're dealing with the points of friction we've been covering in this series on getting help with ADHD. In this video, Colleen and Brittany discuss annoying things like the cost of support and being confused about what support to even ask for.
What do we do when we feel too exhausted to even ask for support? Especially with ADHD, sometimes it feels like asking will be more work than just doing the thing ourselves. Or we might feel too exhausted to even think about what support we need! Brittany and Colleen both know this feeling, have seen it with their ADHD coaching clients, have many thoughts on what this exhaustion can mean, and thoughts on how to emerge from it.
On the podcast, Brittany and Kerry, who both have ADHD, discuss various related topics, including What ADHD is, Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, Time Blindness, and Decision Fatigue. Tune in to learn how to get more done with less stress, and to gain insights into living with ADHD.
Especially with ADHD, Sometimes we worry that we are "bothering" people when we ask for help or support. Join Colleen and Brittany as we discuss why this is such a struggle with ADHD, offer countermeasures to overcome these fears.
Does the thought of reaching out to get support from someone else generate some level of fear for you? You're not alone. It is *actually* more difficult-- and scary-- to ask for support when you have ADHD! Brittany and Colleen discuss some different examples and levels of intensity of the experience of asking for help being scary.
Is it better to do something by ourselves, or do it at all? Colleen and Brittany discuss the myth of total self-sufficiency and why it is a struggle to ask for and find help when you are holding yourself to an invisible standard of going it alone to accomplish goals.
If you’re finding yourself spending a bunch of time in an app when you didn’t mean to even open the app, sometimes it comes from a widget.
If you’re in a shared Reminders list and were surprised to get a notification about someone adding pesto to the shared family Costco list, you aren’t alone! When I updated to the iOS16 beta back in June, these were *all* turned on for me by default!
Those little suggestions from Siri can lead down a tempting rabbit hole! These suggestions learn from our behavior, but they aren't formed from what we *wish* we were doing! They come out of what we *actually* do on our iPhones. Not only what we do when it's daytime and we might be working hard, but also from what we do at 2am when we should actually be sleeping…
At the risk of sounding negative, Brittany and Colleen discuss topics which, by and large, often are challenging to engage with during a coaching session. Nothing is universal but it is important to note that these particular areas might mean a slower start to coaching or needing to pivot to something that is better suited to this form of support. (Don't worry, a list of more helpful coaching topics is coming, soon!)
What are the NEW changes to iPhone Notifications in iOS16? Brittany talks about why you should care about notifications, the impact they have on your brain every day.
You, too?! Join Brittany and Colleen as they discuss experiences that are common to ADHD but many people may not be aware are related. Things ranging from sleep to paperwork to lack of awareness of time to deadlines. We dive into things that make many of us pause and feel very seen (sometimes too much so) and say, “URGH YES, that’s me” and sometimes “I had no idea that was ADHD…”.
The search is great for searching for apps by name instead of hunting for them on your app screens. This can keep your Home Screen cleaner, if you don't need to keep as many apps visible.
Not everyone was excited to see search on the Home Screen, and there’s a setting to turn this search “button” off or on, and Brittany will show you how!
Brittany will show you how to customize your iPhone Dock icons. You can even add a folder of apps, if you'd like!
You can have temporary or occasional screens of apps on your iPhone. Maybe up only want to use that page of apps when you're on vacation, or maybe you're just fed up with the clutter and distraction of having random apps everywhere. You can quickly hide those app screens!
Brittany will show you how to turn these app pages off! (Or back on, again!)
You can set up your iPhone to see the *right* apps, at the right time, by making an activity-specific app Home Screen page. That way you can focus on just the apps for what you're doing right now.
