Things ranging from sleep to paperwork to lack of awareness of time to deadlines. We dive into things that make many of us pause and feel very seen (sometimes too much so) and say “URGH YES, that’s me” and sometimes “I had no idea that was ADHD…”.
One of the things we wanted to create with The ADHD Guild is a safe space where folks with similar neurodivergent brains could feel relaxed and seen. Being heard and understood is a fundamental humans need. When your brain works differently than most of the rest of the world, it can be hard to find ways and spaces to feel that. Moments when someone says, "I don't know if it's just me but ___" and someone else says, “Thank GOODNESS it's not just me!" are fantastic for creating this feeling. Some of these struggles that bind us together are: the endless task of laundry/dishes/clutter being overwhelming despite being widely regarded as 'simple', a tendency to beat ourselves up and self-criticize, struggling with making appointments and managing insurance, the never-ending battle with email management, and finding paper and forms difficult to deal with. All of these things, and many, many more are examples of things that often others in the world do without issue and are enormous, seemingly insurmountable barriers to us. And hearing someone else say, "I understand that, way too much" can help.
